The Ozanam Eye Centre was built on the site of Bishop Benziger Hospital with funds raised by St. Vincent De Paul through the efforts of Dr. A.Q.C. Vanruiten and the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, an international organization dedicated to alleviating blindness. On 11th February 1978, His Excellency Rt Rev Dr. Jerome M Fernandez (Bishop of Quilon) blessed the foundation stone of the building laid by Dr. A.Q.C. Vanruiten. The building was later blessed by His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph G Fernandez (Bishop of Quilon) on 30th December 1979, and inaugurated by Dr. A.Q.C. Vanruiten.
Today, the Ozanam Eye Centre is a leading eye hospital in Kollam Town, providing comprehensive eye care services to patients from across the region. The Centre has overcome numerous challenges to become a beacon of excellence in the field of ophthalmology, and continues to strive towards providing the highest standards of care to its patients.
